After the Record Year of 2023, France in Search of Tourism Balance in 2024
In 2024, the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games (JOP24) and the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris propelled France onto the international stage. However, the economic and political situation was more complex, with strong pressure on household purchasing power and great political uncertainty. This combination of contrasting dynamics made 2024 a year that was both promising and revealing of our country's internal fragilities.
2023 was an exceptional year: France has never welcomed so many international tourists (98 million) and tourism revenues have never been so high (more than 63 billion euros), demonstrating the true attractiveness of our country, and revealing the importance of the tourism sector for our economy (8% of national GDP and a positive player in the balance of payments).
That being said, Olivia Grégoire, former Minister Delegate for Tourism, declared in September that we should see a certain "stabilization and normalization" of Tourism in 2024 after a record year in 2023. The projections for the current year illustrate this vision: the government is counting on the arrival of 100 million international tourists, which is an increase certainly, but a relatively limited increase of +2%.
